fieldnotes

as I walked to the Bywater yesterday evening
for the opening of my exhibition

fieldnotes

I heard music coming from this house

somebody was practising the Bach piece that my father played every night when he came home from his work at the university
as a child I lived to sit under the piano to be enveloped in the music
This evening I had to be content with standing on the street

Thank you everybody who came last night
I had no idea I had so many friends in New Orleans!

And thank you NOCCA and particularly my friend Nikki Jackson for the exhibition opportunity
thank you too, to my friend Shelley for simply being.

Thank you Frank from the Joan Mitchell Center for schlepping in my "twig" collection (and going back for another load)
and also the JMC for once again hosting me here in beautiful New Orleans

And thankyou Christine
for sending me beautiful fragrant flowers
an unexpected joy.

,,,sorry about the lack of links, I shall fix that when I arrive home in a few days. Haven't quite worked out how to do that on the Batfone !

  2. looks wonderful, India, and what a thing like a blessing to suddenly be overtaken by the very same Bach you loved as a child on your way there ... are those deep-coloured fabric things on the wall little sculptural shapes/bags or just pieces of fabric?

I remember, that I had a similar walk down memory lane on a New Year's Day in Austin...it was a moment of sadness and unbelievable joy!

IF is not pleased with Delta at present , the wings seem to have fallen off our plane. But I guess it is better to have that happen on the ground than in mid air....

  13. Congratulations!! It's clear that you don't lounge about all day eating bon bons. =) The work is gorgeous. Could you show a close up picture of the corner modular piece. I'm intrigued. Pretty please?

  15. India, this is the most beautiful shape of a cloth, I've ever seen! It inspires dancing and meditation in me, erectness and happiness...and those amazing colours...

  16. Congratulations India. The colors of the cloths, their presentation, the dress just waiting to catch a riff from a second line and go sashaying down a New Orleans boulevard...you did New Orleans proud and you should feel proud as well. Wonderful exhibition.

  17. How wonderful! And to hear music first- I am a branch collector, last year bushes were being cut down all over my neighborhood. Well I just could not pass them by, so I rode my scooter out to the tree lawns and helped myself, as I was on my way back, my neighbor opened his garage, he stood there laughing his head off. Here I was dragging branch after branch behind me on my scooter. Crazy artist
