fingerfood

ha.

i bet when you read "fingerfood"
you thought of the wedding reception in "Love Actually"
or
if you are my age
of prunes wrapped in bacon
strange stripy sandwiches cut on the diagonal
and those funny lurid coloured cocktail onions

that's not what this is about.
i'm talking the fingerfood that is the soft caress of SilkyMerino
fresh from the cauldron
it's just too delicious.
and i can't stop running my fingers over the surface.
the fabulous thing about SilkyMerino, aside from magical properties in the dyebath
and that it is delivered as an extremely useful tube
is that the merino part is pure new Australian wool sourced from fine wool producers in NSW
mixed with a little silk
and then transformed into this superb fabric.
this dress was made for my agent, Jen Loew
who trusts me that it's going to be perfect for summer in New York
as well as any other climate anywhere else.
she specified comfy.
comfy is winging its way to her.
and of course it has a little camouflaged pocket.
of which there will be stories in the 'shapeshifter' book
[which is the next one in line once i finish the student celebration book]
and did i mention that it smells really nice?

  2. This dress is delicious and perfect for summer in New York. Lucky Pam. May I unabashedly mention that if anyone is looking to purchase the fabric...I've got about 200 yards available in my shop now.

  4. I just bought some of this -- a tube, 2 yards! -- but I don't know enough about garment sewing to convert it to a dress. Would you be willing to point me in the right direction? Thank you! JS

    1. you could begin by looking at the work done by Issey Miyake
      or
      just play.

    1. really i have to thank Marion of www.beautifulsilks.com for sourcing such lovely product for me to work with. over the years she has helped me so much, even to having my favourite stitching thread [#5 silk+cotton mix] spun finely and put on cones so i can use it in my overlocker [serger] and when i came home from the US one year with a silk broadcloth sample, promptly topped it by making a silk+wool broadcloth, bless her!

  10. I think I enjoy the smell more than the feel.... but that is a wondrous frock either way, and protected from little bugs by the lingering eucalyptus fragrance.

  20. India, the marks on this dress are more beautiful than words can say. Inspired by your work, I wrapped leaves and flower petals around eggs, tucked them into small net bags, then boiled. They are the prettiest Easter eggs I have ever held! Pictures are on my blog if you would like to see them. I also have a post with a tribute to you, on my first attempt at bundling leaves and stuff in cloth. www.animpartationofcolor.blogspot.com
