it's been a week of highs and lows [thank you everybody who sent kind thoughts, tis wonderful indeed to know so many warm hearts read these pages]
now let me tell you about the high -
the formal confirmation letter from my lovely publisher
accepting the manuscript for second skin*
and then yesterday i pootled down to the Art Gallery of South Australia
to see the exhibition Rupert Bunny, artist in Paris
like me, Rupert was born in Melbourne [1864]. i think we have a couple of other things in common -
you can see by the way he paints them that he loved dogs
Greetings,
ReplyDeleteI am glad I stopped by this evening.
First a big congratulations on having the publisher except your manuscript. As for your description of the painting posted, it is precious and right on the mark. If I never saw the painting, your words provide a a wonderful image.
Wishing you all the best,
Egmont
Hey Ho, congratulations. Wonderful news a publisher's acceptance letter and the thought of visiting the Rupert Bunny exhibition is delicious. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting! I see what you mean by looking at the expression of the lady and the dog ;)
ReplyDeleteI love how paintings tell so much more than there is to be seen at first sight...
Thanx for the link in your blog ;)
YAY! about second skin. i am all anticipation.
ReplyDeleteyou're absolutely right about the expressions...
HOORAY for publishing! There will be a spot on my shelf, waiting.
ReplyDeleteI have just been outside collecting windfall petals of the black peony poppy (Papaver somniferum), now safely stowed in the bowels of the chest freezer in anticipation of my first ice-flower dyeing...inspired by you & all you've shared :>]
Dog above certainly knew the lady was no friend - look at that stare - another species of "ice flower"...
The dog in the painting looks like my dog Tess. I am so sorry about your dog. Losing a friend is very hard. I don't remember where I read your comments about someone who didn't like your book. Well, I just got it this week and I love it. What a beautiful book. I already have silk in a jar on the balcony and flowers in the freezer. I have tested several plants in my yard by pouring boiling water over them in white custard cups (I wondered when I would find a good use for them--the cups that is!)and found that Victorian Blue Sage turns blue almost instantly. I am a little confused about mordants, but will keep playing. And now you say there is a new book? I can hardly wait.
ReplyDeletewill be hard to wait a year for second skin, i'm very curious.
ReplyDeleteXXXm
I second what Martine said. I'm very curious and can't wait to see the new book. Between your traveling and teaching all over the place, farming, gardening, making art, etc, etc. where in the world did you find time to write/research another book? I am impressed indeed.
