pearls

it's suddenly dawned on me that it's nearly a year since i began this lark...storytelling in fluffy space...and so i thought i'd celebrate by giving someone else a present.

there's a catch though...first you'll have to read some pearls [possibly of wisdom] and then you'll have to contribute a few of your own.

post a pearl in the comments and on January 14th [South Australian time....so that'll be the 13th for you Statesiders] Martha-muu will help me to pick a lucky-dip winner from the hat [felt, of course]
i'll then post the name of the winner, who will have to supply me with their postal address so that i can send them an eco-print surprise... a present from the Prophet of Bloom.

so here goes

"never chase men or trams...there'll be another along in five minutes" -  Grandma

"a little dirt never hurt anybody and besides, it keeps you warm" - my favourite Auntie

"a little of what you fancy does you good" - British actress Joan Collins [i apply this theory to chocolate although i suspect Ms Collins applies it to other amusements as well]

"i'd rather dye regretting something i've done than something i hadn't done" - my youngest child [then aged 14 and still a fount of wisdom]

"save the planet, it's the only one with chocolate" - some bright but nameless soul

"knowledge is the realisation the tomato is a fruit. wisdom is not putting it in the fruit salad" - my son

"a change is as good as a feast" - me

so there you are...and now it's your turn. post me your pearls in the comments and who knows, you may find yourself the lucky dip winner of an eco-printed textile object...which i'll be making this coming weekend...

  1. I love your Grandma's quote about men and trams and the anonymous one about saving the planet because its the only one which has chocolate.Congratulations on a year of "story telling in fluffy space", I do enjoy your posts. My pearls are "The one who travels alone, travels the fastest" and "The only constant is change". There are others but only these two come to mind just now.

"None so blind as those that will not see."
And this one that I read somewhere, but can't remember who said it: "It's attitude, not aptitude, that determines your altitude."

    Congrats on your blogiversary!

My pearls are southern country: "What I see, others see" (as in if you notice something awry); and, "If it's not one thing, its two things" (from a former co-worker vis-a-vis a family maid.

  10. Another of my mother's sayings which has walked with me many a mile is 'Leave not until to-morrow what you can do to-day', that one we all know and have at some time suffered under, but mother had the convers as well, when I was obvioysly over tired, the old Latvian saying 'work is not a rabbit, it won't run away' would come to the fore.

and it's a good thing it's going to be a lucky dip, i'd never be able to choose a winner otherwise.

  17. Congratulations on your blog anniversary India. I saw my words of wisdom on a sign board outside a local hall, 'an eye for an eye, soon everyone is blind'. This appealed to me.

  18. err... my previous post was from some zen book I read years ago (maybe Basho?) - too long ago to remember.
    An Eastern proverb nonetheless

  20. Congratulations on your blogoversary! I love seeing what's going on with you down under. As someone whose endeavors are almost never done halfheartedly, I have always been inspired by this quote from Goethe when embarking on something new: "At the moment of commitment, the entire universe conspires to assist you." More often than not, I have found this to be true in my life.

  21. I'm not sure of the author but I try to remember these words everyday, "being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect, it means you've decided to see beyond the inperfections."

  25. oh I'm SO enjoying this....have decided to repeat this amusement [with a different theme] at some point in the future, perhaps when the happy band of followers hits the 100 mark...we'll see!

meanwhile here's a contribution from Velma, whose internet connection is creating hiccups in the comment-posting department...she's asked me to paste it in for her

"Eat dessert first, life is so uncertain." A bumper sticker on my [Velma's] nephew's pickup and Dr Spock.
